In Wholeness, Bruce Weatherly invites readers into the profound simplicity of the gospel: Christ in us, doing through us what we cannot do ourselves. As a clinician, I see the longing for peace, identity, and purpose in so many lives—and this book speaks directly to that ache. It’s not a self-help manual; it’s a Spirit-led call to freedom, oneness, and joy in Christ. Read it slowly. Let it sink in. It just might change how you live.”

Wholeness: Where God Is Bringing Us is the result of decades of deep rumination on a few life-altering truths. My friend, Bruce Weatherly, has marinated his mind on a number of cherished passages in God’s Word for a very long time, personally experiencing freedom and joy, and is now sharing his discoveries with us. I recommend reading Wholeness as it was written–in snatches, over time, and with much reflection.

In Wholeness Bruce Weatherly writes, “The righteous requirements of the law are fully met in us, not by us.” My heart cries, “Amen!” The Christian life is just living the life that Christ is living in us. Fellow Christian, we struggle way too much! Weatherly’s book is a corrective for all of us who dwell on our own shortcomings and sins. Read it devotionally and you will find that your eyes are turned from yourself toward Jesus, the only one who can truly live this Christian life.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free”! My dear friend, Bruce Weatherly, has written Wholeness out of a life that has been touched by and devoted to the reality of the Spirit of God in him. Decades have been spent in devotion to studying and teaching the truths that come from this reality of God within us and Wholeness is just part of the fruit of that devotion. Bruce’s heart is that we might live into the reality of God’s Spirit within us and our union with Christ, our “Oneness” with God. We are the branches and the Lord is our vine and as we abide in him, just abide in him, we will be the fruit-bearers we were made to be. That is at the heart of this book, that is in the depths of Bruce Weatherly’s heart and most of all that is at the heart of what God is doing in and through us as we live as those who have Christ’s redemption applied to us by the living Spirit of God. True freedom is true wholeness.

While Bruce has his favorite passages for this teaching of Oneness with God through the Spirit, possibly the great strength of this book is how he shows that these beautiful truths of the New Covenant are found all through the scriptures. The New Covenant reality of the indwelling Spirit was for David, Moses, Paul and is for you and for me. God has always desired this intimacy and he has always brought it about by his very Spirit. While this is a teaching that we need more of, it is far from something new. You could say that the experience of the teaching found in this book is as old as the Spirit of God breathing life into man. The newness of what Christ does in the New Covenant is to destroy the barrier of sin that creates a distance when God has always desired our “oneness”. This is a book worth your time. Bruce’s heart through this work is that you will grow in this oneness with God.

This is an earnest plea to abide in Christ as He abides in us through the Holy Spirit. Wholeness: Where God Is Bringing Us is a rich treasure of Bruce’s rigorous study of Scripture and explanation of the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of a disciple of Jesus. Bruce speaks directly and eloquently to the reader’s heart to have Christ live through us with the powerful strength of the Holy Spirit. Extensive quotes from Christian leaders illuminate what is being taught. I highly recommend this book for deep reflection on the life of Christ in us.

I have been fortunate enough to know Bruce, who is a licensed psychologist as well as having more of the Bible memorized than anyone else I know, for a number of years, and I will happily say that my internal thought life, my parenting and marriage, and my ministry are all far better because of the time I’ve spent with him. I’m grateful he has decided to write some of his thoughts so I can quote him better.

Bruce’s ideas are a useful corrective for the trap of the morbid, anguished way of living we can fall into, especially in the Reformed tradition. This book can be read quickly, like an invigorating shower, or devotionally dwelt in, like a relaxing bath. Either way, you’ll get good results.

I do 100% endorse Bruce Weatherly’s “Wholeness”. I read and reread the manuscript and only wish I had this 40 years ago. Dr. Weatherly has put all my questions about growth and how to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit in one scripture-packed homily that says it all and answers all questions. Practical and fraught with lots of illustrations and stories. Love it and will share it with all my friends and students/disciples.

Bruce conveys the essence of the beauty and power of God’s truth about our freedom in Christ. You’ll be excited to walk into your next moments with Jesus as you grow in a deeper understanding of walking in the Spirit.
